Day 1 - Arrival / Muscat
Immediately after arriving in Muscat, you’ll be met at the airport and taken to your
hotel. You may then begin touring the city of Muscat, depending on your time of arrival.
Your dinner will be served at the hotel.
Day 2 - Muscat City
After you’re served breakfast at the hotel, you’ll delve into you will be able to explore
the allure of an Oman that is both modern and still honoring traditional culture.
Following a tour of the Grand Mosque, you’ll visit the Bait Al Zubair museum, which
gives a captivating introduction to the rich heritage of Oman. Next, you’ll drive along
the stunning waterfront Corniche, visiting both the charming Mutrah Souq and the Fish
Market. On the way there, you can make an additional stop for photos at Al Alam
Palace, the official palace of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. You will then return to your
hotel for the night.
Day 3 - Khasab
After breakfast, you will get on a short flight to Khasab, often called the “Norway of
Arabia” due to vast fjord-like inlets and mountainscapes. Upon your arrival there, you’ll
take a tour of the city, with an opportunity to see Khasab Fort, as well as visit the local
museum. Afterward, you will get to explore the guardian mountains, get a taste of
village life, and view high-altitude sea fossils. Dinner will be served at a local
restaurant.
Day 4 - Khasab
After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll ride on a day-long Dhow (boat) adventure to look at
the beautiful Omani fjords and swim in the ocean accompanied by pods of dolphins.
Snorkeling and scuba are also available. You will be served lunch on the water, and
after a day bathing in the sun and Arabian breeze, you’ll get to enjoy dinner in your
hotel.
Day 5 - Fanja / Birkat Al Mouz / Nizwa
Shortly after breakfast, you’ll depart for your return flight to Muscat. Upon arrival,
you’ll take the mountain road on the way to Nizwa. Have a gorgeous photo stop at
Fanja, also known as the “Gateway to Oman’s Interior.” Follow along to Birkat Al Mouz,
a village nestled against the side of a mountain and home to plantations and oases.
There you’ll be able to witness concrete examples of Oman’s ancient and one-of-a-kind
Falaj irrigation system. We move from there to Nizwa, the original capital of old Oman,
and home to world-famous souk markets. Take a break there to browse, or even
purchase some of Nizwa’s famed Omani silver crafts and other handmade items. Close
by, we will visit the Nizwa Fort, a legendary masterpiece of architecture and military
defense. Spend the night in Nizwa with dinner served at a local restaurant.
Day 6 - Jebel Shams / Jabreen
Today you will have the opportunity to wander through the mountain villages
surrounding Nizwa and enjoy the astonishing Wadi Ghul, known as “Oman’s Grand
Canyon,” and the gorgeous Wadi Nakheel. Hiking enthusiasts will have an opportunity
to explore it on foot. In contrast, those who like a more laid-back experience have the
chance to park and take in the breathtaking beauty from several different vantage
points. Lastly, you’ll be driven a short distance to Jabreen, home to one of the most
beautiful forts in Oman. Intrinsic wood carvings, along with ceiling and wall paintings,
will make this an unforgettable experience. You’ll spend the night in a hotel in Nizwa or
Jebel Shams.
Day 7 - Wadi Bani Khalid / Sharqiyya Sands
Today you will adventure into the never-ending Sharqiyya Sands desert. Known as”
Wahiba Sands “ after the local Bani Wahiba tribe, this location provides ample
opportunity to delight in Oman and see her purest form. On the way there, you’ll have
the chance to visit Wadi Bani Khalid, whose year-round flow of water makes it
distinctive in its beauty and definitive of the myriads of ancient riverbeds adorning
Oman’s landscape. After resting for a bit in the wadi, you will head on to Wahiba sands,
where you’ll be able to unwind in the quiet of the dunes. You can experience the sunset
in the desert and partake of a traditional bedouin meal at your desert accommodations
in this mystical place.
Day 8 - Wadi Tiwi / Wadi Al Shab / Bimmah / Muscat
After a bedouin breakfast, you will begin a day of relaxation, and swimming adventures,
so put on your swimsuit and walking shoes! The first stop will be Wadi Tiwi, a village in
the coastal mountains. Following a brief stop for photos, you’ll enjoy lunch in a local
restaurant. Then, follow up the coastal road a short way, and finish the day with a short
hike into Wadi Al-Shab, where you’ll discover a waterfall hidden behind a keyhole
entry. Lastly, you’ll experience one of Oman’s hidden gems – the deep blues and aquas
of the Bimmah Sinkhole close to the town of Dibba, before ending the day at a beautiful
white sands beach. Return to Muscat, where dinner will be served at your hotel.
Day 9 - Flight to Salalah
After breakfast, your driver will take you to the airport to catch a flight to Salalah.
You’ll begin your tour of Salalah by visiting Al Baleed Archaeological Park and the
museum for a complete overview of both local and national history. In this appealing
museum, you’ll find an ample variety of local antiquities, including an entire hall
dedicated solely to Oman’s famous seafaring record. Afterward, spend your afternoon
wandering the alleyways of Haffa souk laced with the aroma of intricate hand-made
items and frankincense that preserve an ancient Omani tradition. After shopping, finish
your afternoon drinking fresh coconut milk from local stands at the beach before
heading to a local restaurant for dinner.
Day 10 - Salalah East
After breakfast, your driver will take you east to explore the heights and history of
Dhofar. First, follow the winding mountain road past the grizzled “Travertine Curtain,”
which cascades with water during the monsoon season, to the peaceful Wadi Darbat,
which in times of antiquity sourced the ancient port city of Samaharam below. Meander
a bit further in the mountains before finally arriving at Jebel Samhan, one of the highest
points in all of Dhofar. You’ll have an “on top of the world” feeling as you take in the
fantastic view of the coastal plains of Eastern Salalah from the top of 1000 meter cliffs.
Afterward, begin your descent down the mountain onto the fishing village of Mirbat,
where you’ll see the remnants of Portuguese occupation at the harbor fort, and passing
through Mirbat’s eery “ghost town,” you’ll have a rare picture of the past in the
deserted market and houses. After lunch, follow the road along the coast back to
Salalah and stop by the ancient city of Sumhuram. There you’ll have the opportunity to
walk through the excavated city streets of the fabled residence of the Queen of Sheba
and the historical capital for Frankincense trade under the brooding gaze of the twin
cliffs that guard over this legendary harbor. Return to Salalah with the sunset, where
dinner will be served at your hotel.
Day 11 - Salalah West
Today you’ll be treated by the wonders of the west. Early after breakfast, you’ll be
heading out passing gorgeous Mughsail and into the Qara mountains along the hairpin
turns of Wadi Awful, finally arriving at the legendarily beautiful beaches of Fazaya for a
full day of soaking up the sun and swimming in the turquoise Arabian sea. This will also
be a great chance to reflect on your time in Oman. Then, continue back along the coast,
where you will take in the beautiful scenery and white sands of Mughsail Beach. There
you’ll discover the famous “blowholes” of seawater that shoot up through the rocks and
caves during high tide, which look like wave-powered geysers during the monsoon.
Today you’ll have a picnic-stye lunch, and dinner will be served at a local restaurant.
Day 12 - The Empty Quarter
Today, taking off from Salalah, you’ll be the Empty Quarter. This is the most extended
continuous sand desert in the world. Experiencing the vastness and grandeur of this
sand sea is invigorating and refreshing in the comfort of an air-conditioned, 4WD
vehicle. Dinner will be cooked over a campfire, and you’ll have the once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity to sleep in a tent under the Arabian star carpeted sky.
Day 13 - Salalah
For your last full day in Oman, you’ll wake up with the morning light in the desert and
begin to make your trip back to Salalah. On your way back, stop for lunch in the
Bedouin city of Thumrait. You’ll then get to say goodbye to this beautiful country in
style by going into the pristine water surrounding the city and cruising about with pods
of dolphins and tropical fish. Snorkeling and Scuba opportunities are also available. For
your last night in Salalah, dinner will be served at your hotel.
Day 14 - Salalah / Departure
Today say goodbye (for now) to the land of Frankincense. You’ll transfer from your
hotel back to Salalah airport to reminisce on life-changing memories you made a living
the Best of Oman as you make your way home.
